The Berkeley Township Tax Assessor is governed by State law and regulated by the Director of the Division of Taxation thru the Ocean County Board of Taxation. The Assessor is statutorily responsible to list, descript and value for assessment proposes, all real property within the municipal boundaries. The Assessors must determine the full and fair value of each parcel of property in the municipality at such price as, in their judgment, it would sell for at a fair and bona fide sale by private contract (NJSA 54:4-23).
The Township of Berkeley has been ordered by the Ocean County Board of Taxation to perform a complete revaluation of all real property for the 2009 tax year. Accordingly, the Township has contracted with Certified Valuations, Inc. of Randolph, New Jersey to conduct this program as prescribed by State law. The purpose of the revaluation is to ensure an equitable distribution of the property tax burden among all of the Townships taxpayers.
